Mustangs defeat Redmen to win Old Four for second consecutive year

TORONTO - The Western Mustangs captured the Old Four men's soccer tournament championship for the second consecutive year defeating the McGill Redmen 3-1 in the finals Sunday, August 21 at Varsity Stadium in Toronto.

The first half saw the Mustangs jump out to a quick 2-0 lead.

Striker Jacob Peplinski opened the scoring for the Mustangs in the 10th minute breaking through a pair of McGill defenders before slipping the ball past Redmen goalkeeper Valere Demelier.

Then just four minutes later Parker Seymour continued his incredible tournament performance scoring his third goal of the weekend on a beautiful effort from the top of the 18-yard box.

Early in the second half, McGill midfielder Alex De Santis took advantage of a scramble in front of Western keeper Ben Cowman to cut into the Mustangs lead.

However, just three minutes later Mark Serjeant would reclaim a two goal lead for the Mustangs and secured the tournament victory.

Cowman played all 90 minutes to earn the win for Western. Demelier split duties with fellow goalkeeper Antoine Marchal for the Redmen.
