Box Score HAMILTON, Ont. - Marauder goalkeeper Kieran Doyle-Davis recorded a shutout on Saturday to hand the Mustangs a 2-0 loss in their season opener.
Veteran Ben Cowman continued his tenure in the purple and white net, fending off four shots throughout the afternoon.
Both goalies were perfect in the first half, each recording four saves, to leave the scoreboard blank headed into the half. But once the game entered into the final 45, the Marauders began to chip away at the Mustang defence before twice finding the back of the Western net.
Dusan Kovacevic, in the first CIS game of his career, was the one to put McMaster on the scoreboard 62 minutes into the contest after picking up the ball from Sasha Riccuiti.
Just ten minutes later, Yunus Mollayev capitalized on an assist from Chris Luxton and sent the ball behind Cowman to give the Marauders a two goal advantage.
That goal would be the final one of the afternoon, as the Marauders perserved the clean sheet for Doyle-Davis and claimed a 2-0 win to open their regular season schedule.
Western now gets set for their home opener, as they'll welcome the Brock Badgers to Mustangs Field on Sunday afternoon at 3:15 p.m.
