PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The Mustangs welcomed Trent to OUA Rugby the only way they know how; with a crushing 43-17 defeat on the Excalibur's home turf. The win gives Western a 3-1 record, while Trent is at 2-2.
Cole Sopik led the Mustangs offensively, recording three tries throughout the game. On the Excalibur scoresheet, three athletes split the top spot with one try each.
Trent was first to put points on the board with an early try from Hayden Ryan and a subsequent convert, but the Mustangs responded with 24 points of their own before the end of the half.
Western didn't slow down in the final forty minutes of the game, adding another 19 points to the board. Trent also kicked it up a notch, adding two more tries before the final whistle.
The Mustangs are back in action on Reunion Weekend, when they host longtime rival in the Queen's Gaels at Alumni Field. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
