ST. MARYS, Ont. – The Mustangs was back in action on Saturday, January 7, as they faced off against Brock at the Pyramid Recreation Centre. After a close first half, the Mustangs were able to pull ahead and defeat the Badgers 7-5.
Both the Mustangs and the Badgers hit the ice in full stride, and the first half of the game saw the teams equally controlling possession of the ring.
Centre
Michelle Coppens would start the scoring early on in the game. Brock then followed, with forwards Jordyn Cousins and Raegan Hayter recording one goal each.
However, with just 49 seconds remaining on the clock defenceman
Alyssa Hayter moved the ring past Brocks goaltender to send the game into the half with a score of 2-2.
The second half was filled with fast-paced action, with a total of 8 goals being scored.
Coppens and
Brittany Dors, controlled the second half, with Coppens recording another 4 points, and Dors scoring 4 out of the 5 Western goals.
Although the Brock Badgers would sneak 3 more goals past Western goaltender
Sarah Ritchie, it was not enough to overtake the purple and white surge. The Mustangs secured the win 7-5.
The Western Mustangs are on the road next weekend as they head to compete in the Waterloo tournament at RIM Park.
