Mustangs win Large Co-ed and All-Girl titles at National Championships

| By:
BRAMPTON, Ont. - Western added to their unprecedented run of Canadian championships on Saturday, winning the 32nd National Championship in program history at the 2017 PCA Collegiate Cheerleading Nationals.

It's the tenth consecutive title for the Mustangs, extending a streak that began in 2008. Since the inception of the Canadian championship in 1985, Western has won all but one of the national titles, taking the crown each year from 1985 to 2006 as well as their current ten-year run.

Nineteen collegiate teams took part in the event, with Western boasting the largest team in the coed category with 20 men and 16 women comprising this year's squad. The Mustangs dominated the field, scoring 224.7 in round one before registering a score of 226.6 in the second round. The Mustangs overall total of 451.3 far surpassed the second place Montreal Carabins, who recorded a two-round total of 422, with the Queen's Gaels taking third at 407.8.

The Mustangs also took first place in the University All-Girl Division, finishing with a two-round total of 426.3. The Mustangs reclaim their title, after winning the Championship in 2015, and falling second to the Laurier Golden Hawks at last years competition. The Guelph Gryphons took home second this year with a total score of 421, and the Golden Hawks claimed third with a score of 415.3 after two rounds.
