Western shuts out Laurier to stay undefeated

WATERLOO, Ont. – Two goals from Connor Wilson led the Western Mustangs to a 3-0 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday afternoon at University Stadium.

The win continues Western's undefeated season and improves their record 5-0-2, good for second place in the OUA West Division standings, only two points behind the Guelph Gryphons. Laurier falls to 1-6-1 on the year with the loss.

Wilson's two goals are the first of his OUA career, and move him into a tie for second place among Mustangs goal scorers alongside Chuka Ononye, who provided the other goal for Western in the win.

The midfielder's first goal of the day came in the 14th minute as Wilson converted an assist from Reza Nafar to give the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead.

Western extended that lead to 2-0 midway through the second half with Wilson marking his name on the scoresheet for the second time in the contest, scoring in the 61st minute. Ononye rounded out the game's scoring just three minutes later, converting an assist from Wilson to give Western a 3-0 victory.

The Mustangs will return to the road for their next contest when they'll face the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, on Saturday, September 23, at 3:15 p.m.
