WATERLOO, Ont. – A first half goal from
Sabrina De Nard extended the Western Mustangs winning streak to five games with a 1-0 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday afternoon at University Stadium.
The win moves the Mustangs to 6-1-0 and they maintain their spot atop the OUA West standings, two points ahead of the Guelph Gryphons. Laurier falls to 2-2-4 with the loss, and remain in fifth place in the standings.
De Nard's goal is her second of the season, as she also provided the game winner in the Mustangs 1-0 win over McMaster back on September 2.
Western controlled the play in the first half, outshooting the Golden Hawks 9-0 and forcing Laurier keeper Ashley Almeida to make four saves in the first 45 minutes. De Nard's goal came a little less than 20 minutes into the half and gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
Things were a bit more even in the second half, with the Golden Hawks holding a 4-2 edge in shots, however none would beat keeper
Megan Girardi as Western walked away with a 1-0 win.
Next up for the purple and white is another road contest, as they'll head to St. Catharines on Saturday, September 23, to take on the Brock Badgers at 1 p.m.
