Western falls to McMaster on Sunday afternoon

HAMILTON – Two goals from Dusan Kovacevic helped lead the McMaster Marauders over the Western Mustangs by a 3-0 score on Sunday afternoon at Ron Joyce Stadium.

The loss is only Western's second defeat of the season, and moves the team to 5-2-2 on the year, good for fourth in the OUA West standings. McMaster improves to 7-2-0 with the win and are tied for second alongside the York Lions.

Kovacevic's two goals were his fifth and sixth of the season and put him first among all Marauder players.

McMaster opened the scoring early on Sunday, with a goal from Anand Sergeant putting the Marauders up 1-0 at the eight minute mark. They'd extend that lead to 2-0 just prior to the end of the first half with a Kovacevic's first of the day coming at the 43 minute mark.

Kovacevic would add another in the 59th minute to give the Marauders a 3-0 win.

Western will now turn its attention to a rematch with the Windsor Lancers this Saturday, September 30, at Mustang Field. The Mustangs defeated the Lancers 3-1 back on September 13, and they'll be looking to do the same this Saturday when the game kicks off at 3:15 p.m.
