MUSTANGS PICK UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON AGAINST WARRIORS

LONDON, Ont. - Second-year winger Anthony Stefano scored his first goal of the season to help lead the Western men's hockey team to a 4-3 victory on Thursday evening in Waterloo, Ont.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 1-1 on the season and move into fourth place in the OUA West division standings. Waterloo's loss drops them to 0-2 on the season as they sit at the bottom of the OUA West division.

Three other Mustangs found the back of the net on the evening, as Stephen Desrocher, Trent Ouellette, and Rylan Bechtel each scored their first goals of the young season.

Stefano got the Mustangs' offence rolling early in the opening period, matched shortly after by the Warriors to tie the game at 1-1. However, Western took advantage of the power play in the final minutes of the frame, giving the purple and white the 2-1 lead heading into the second period.

Waterloo once again tied the game to begin the second period, but a pair of back-to-back goals in the second period regained the advantage for Western late in the second period. The Warriors pulled within one goal before the end of the frame, but a failure to score throughout the third period allowed the Mustangs to escape with the 4-3 victory.

The Mustangs will be back in action this Friday, October 12, where they will take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves in their first meeting of the season. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 P.M.
