TORONTO – The Western Mustangs kicked off their regular season schedule with a draw on Friday night, playing to a 1-1 final score against the York Lions at Alumni Field.
Cristian Devia provided the offence for Western, while Chris Jacovuou scored for the Lions.
Neither team was able to solve the other in the first half, with Western outshooting the defending OUA Champions 4-3 in the opening 45 minutes.
The Lions broke open the scoring in the 55th minute with Jacovuou converting an assist from Omar Marzouk to give York a 1-0 lead.
That lead wouldn't last long however, as Devia responded with a goal of his own at the 62-minute mark off of an assist from Jeremy Arnold.
The Mustangs continued to press to take the lead, sending another four shots toward the Lions net, however the score remained the same as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw.
Next up for the Mustangs is a road matchup against the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:15 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
