Box Score LONDON, Ont. - Fifth-year striker Julia Crnjac netted a pair of goals to lead the Western Mustangs women's soccer team to a decisive 5-1 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo, Ont.
Crnjac's two goals on the day give her a total of three on the season, as she remains a consistent presence for the Mustang offence. Three other Mustangs added goals for the purple and white in the victory, as Katrina Giantsopoulos,
Kendra Marlatt, and
Giulia Geraci also chipped in a goal each. Geraci's goal gives her a total of four on the season, as she sits in fifth place in the OUA in goals scored.
Both teams struggled to find the back of the net through the opening 45 minutes of action, as Western's defence locked down the Waterloo attack. However, Giantsopoulos opened the scoring for the purple and white midway through the half, soon to be followed by a pair of additional goals from Geraci and Crnjac.
Waterloo responded quickly into the second half, scoring a goal early and putting Western on the defence. However, Crnjac's second goal of the day held the Mustangs' lead out of reach from the Warriors, as Marlatt went on to add one final goal in extra time to allow Western to cruise to the eventual 5-0 victory.
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 3-0-3 on the season, as they trail only Guelph in the OUA West division standings. The Warriors' loss will drop them to 3-3-1, as they sit in fourth place in the OUA West division.
Western will be back in action tomorrow, September 16, where they will host the Laurier Golden Hawks in what will be their first meeting of the season. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 P.M. EST.
