HAMILTON, Ont. - The Western men's soccer team fell in a 3-0 shutout to the McMaster Marauders on Friday evening in Hamilton, Ont.
With the loss, the Mustangs drop to a 3-3-2 record on the season as they sit in fifth place in a competitive OUA West division. The Marauders' victory gives them a 4-2-2 record on the season, giving them fourth place in the OUA West, narrowly edging out the Mustangs.
The Marauders forced the purple and white to play from behind early in the match, scoring just three minutes into to the first half, giving them the 1-0 edge, and putting the pressure on Western heading into the second half.
However, the McMaster defence simply proved too strong to break through in the second half, as Western failed to create the necessary chances to match the Marauders' attack. McMaster continued to pepper Western with shots until the final buzzer, scoring two second-half goals on route to the 3-0 victory.
The Mustangs will be back in action this Sunday, September 23, where they will travel to St. Catharines to take on the Brock Badgers in what will be their second meeting of the regular season. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:15 P.M. EST.
