ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Western women's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw with the Brock Badgers on Sunday afternoon in St. Catharines, Ont.
With the draw, the Mustangs remain undefeated on the season and own a 5-0-3 record, good enough to secure second place in the OUA West division standings. The draw gives the Badgers a 2-4-2 record on the year, as they sit in eighth place in the OUA West and will look to move their way up the standings throughout the rest of the season.
The Mustangs' defence was in its usual form throughout the entirety of the day, shutting down Brock's strikers and disallowing the Badgers any legitimate scoring opportunities through the opening 45 minutes of action. However, Western's offence, which has largely improved throughout the season, struggled to control the ball consistently in the first half as they went into halftime facing a 0-0 tie.
The second half was much of the same for the purple and white, as the Mustangs put a handful of shots on net, but all of them failing to get past the Badgers' keeper. However, Western's impeccable defence, which has led them to five shutouts so far on the year, was enough to allow them to end the weekend road trip with a 0-0 draw.
The Mustangs will be back in action this Saturday, September 29, where they will host the Algoma Thunderbirds in their first game of a back-to-back weekend matchup with the team on Mustangs Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 P.M. EST.
