Box Score 1 London, ON - The Mustangs started the weekend on the road to Guelph on Friday to face the Gryphons.
In the opening minutes of the game, Guelph won a corner kick and scored in the 9
th minute. The Mustangs battled hard and competed with the Gryphons throughout the tough match.
In the 86
th minute Kiera Grein won a foul just outside the Gryphons box. Giulia Geraci took the free kick and Melanie Walters scored a goal off of the goalie's rebound. The game ended with a 1-1 tie.
Megan Girardi made two saves in the contest.
The Mustangs remain undefeated on the season.
Western then traveled to Waterloo to play the Laurier Goldenhawks for their final away game of the regular season on Sunday.
In the 14
th minute Sabine Gillie-Hardy would dribble down the sideline and send in a cross for Kendra Marlatt to score.
Later in the first half, in the 31
st minute Sophie Klysen sent a long ball forward where players scrambled to find the net, however Morgan Asling would get the rebound off the keeper to score the second goal of the match.
The Mustangs kept up the pressure in the second half, in the 64
th minute Nicola Panaccione took a free kick that was deflected off a Laurier defender toward Giulia Geraci who then chipped the ball into the net.
Western held on for a 3-0 shutout. Megan Girardi made seven saves on the game.
The Mustangs will finish out the regular season at home. The Windsor Lancers will be at Western on Wednesday, October 16
th and then York comes to town on Friday, October 18
th.
