MUSTANGS WIN IN THREE STRAIGHT SETS TO EXTEND WIN STREAK

London, ON - The Mustangs faced the York University Lions at home on Friday night where they extended their win streak to 4 games after winning the match 3-0.

Gianfranco Sartor lead the Mustangs with 10 kills while Josiah Esau and Nathan Phelps led the team in digs with 9.

The first two points of the set were split between the two teams leading to an early battle between the Mustangs and the Lions. The Mustangs were quick to gain momentum and lead 5-2. The Lions fought back and tied the set at 7. After a serving error by the Lion's the Mustangs regained the lead 9-8. A big block from Western allowed the Mustangs to extend their lead 11-8. The Lions struggled to defend against Evan Cranshaw's serving allowing Western to extend their lead 15-9. A big kill from Jackson Bere put the Mustangs ahead 18-11. A kill from Gianfranco Sartor brought the Mustangs' lead to 20-14 heading into the late part of the set. After a big play from Nathan Phelps, another kill from Gianfranco Sartor brought the score to 21-16. The Lions closed the gap to two points, but a serving error put the ball back into Western's hands with a score of 22-19. The Mustangs went on to win the set 25-21 and took a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Lions took an early 2-1 lead over the Mustangs, but a serving error from the Lions tied the set at 2. Three blocks in a row from Jackson Bere and Brady Fidler gave the Mustangs the lead 6-3. The Lions began to close in on the Mustangs but a kill from Evan Cranshaw regained control for Western with a score of 10-7. However, it didn't stop the Lions for long as they tied the set at 10 before taking the lead 10-13. The Mustangs answered back and shortened the Lions lead to 14-16. A big block from Western ended a long rally and tied the set at 18. A kill from Gianfranco Sartor gave the Mustangs the lead 19-18. The Mustangs built on their lead with a score of 22-18 heading into a Lions timeout. A block from Gianfranco Sartor and Ryan Scott brought the score to 24-19 and a kill from Ryan Scott won the set for the Mustangs 25-19. Western led the match 2-0 after the first two sets.

A large triple block from Gianfranco Sartor, Jackson Bere, and Brady Fidler helped Western grow their lead to 5-2. A kill from Jackson Bere extended the Mustang lead to 7-3. Western continued to dominate the set as a service ace from Brady Fidler brought the score to 9-4 for the Mustangs. The men continued to charge ahead as the grew their lead to 13-7. A big kill from Evan Cranshaw off the block brought the Mustangs to a 7 point lead with a score of 14-7 heading into a time out. The lions continued to struggle against Evan Cranshaw's serving as Western extended their lead to 17-9. The Mustangs continued to surge ahead as they lead by 6 points before a kill from Jackson Bere brought the score to 21-15. The Lions shortened the Mustangs lead to 22-17, but it wasn't enough as a kill fro Gianfranco Sartor brought the set to 24-18. A service ace from Evan Cranshaw won the set 25-18. The Mustangs won the match 3-0. 

The men face the Nipissing Lakers in London tomorrow night at 8:00pm in their last game before the break. Be sure to wear your purple when you cheer them on as they aim to extend their win streak to five games.
