Mustangs drop Game 2 to Brock forcing deciding game Sunday

London, ON – The Mustangs heavily out shot Brock 44-27 in Game 2 of their West semi-final but fell 3-2 to the Badgers on Friday night.

"We had 44 shots on net tonight and a number of great scoring opportunities, I don't think I could ask for much more." said Clarke Singer, Mustangs Head Coach. "3-2 seems to be the score here in the playoffs and they got to 3 before we did tonight"

Western was led on the offensive side of the puck by Ray Huether who netted two goals on the night. The first came just 6:43 into the 1st period. Huether was fed the puck from deep in his own end, with Brock's Tyler McArthur tied up with him Huether found a way to shovel the puck towards the net and it snuck through to make it 1-0.

The Badgers were able to respond on the powerplay at 12:12 of the 1st period to send both teams to their dressing rooms tied at 1 each.

Brock was able to take the lead later in the 2nd period. With Westerns Trevor Warnaar in the penalty box the Badgers Frank Pucci was able to pick up a juicy rebound right in front of the Mustangs net to take the 2-1 lead through 40 minutes.

In the 3rd the Mustangs came out of the gates with a purpose. Once again it was Ray Huether to the rescue as he picked up the puck at his own blueline and skated wide down the boards and then drove hard to the net and slide the puck around Badgers goaltender Logan Thompson and in to tie the game at 2-2.

"I saw that I had a bit of a seam there and just took it to the net, worked out." Huether said after the game. "I think we were all over their net all night and had a lot of grade a chances but we just couldn't get the extra bounces we needed."

The Badgers weren't going to let the Mustangs have a 2nd comeback win in a row though as Skylar Pacheco would pick up his 1st goal of the playoffs at the 13:58 mark of the 3rd period to regain a 1 goal lead.

The Mustangs pulled Luke Peressini with just over a minute remaining in regulation, but it didn't convert a goal and the Badgers secured the 3-2 win and tied the series at 1-1.

"I feel like we just need to tighten up a bit, go back to the drawing board and figure out a few things." Mustangs forward Ethan Szypula said of the special team activity. "It's playoffs, you can't get down you just need to just get back at it, watch some video and be ready to go Sunday."

The Brock win forces a third and deciding game Sunday night in St. Catharines at the Seymour-Hannah Centre. Puck drop is set for 7pm and fans can watch all the action on OUA.tv
