Box Score TORONTO, Ont. - Fourth-year middle Kelsey Veltman tallied a game-high 18 points to lead the Western women's volleyball team in a 3-1 loss to the Ryerson Rams in the OUA Final Four.

Brooklyn Bere was also a valuable asset to the purple and white in their final game of the season, totaling 29 assists and six digs on the evening while Kristina Curcin chipped in seven kills to the cause.

Theanna Vernon led the Rams in what was an outstanding performance, as she put up 16.5 points to lead the team to victory.

Western struggled to match Ryerson's intensity to kick off the opening set, as they fell behind early behind the Rams' athletic play at the net. After 14 kills to lead the first frame, Western was just unable to complete the comeback as they fell 25-17 entering the second set.

In a seemingly must-win set, Western began the frame with purpose, but quickly fell behind against an efficient Ryerson attack. The set remained close down the stretch, until a final burst of momentum from the Rams gave Ryerson the 25-17 win and the 2-0 lead.

In order to avoid the three-set sweep, Western's attack intensified once again to gain the early lead, as Veltman's dominant play led to the eventual 25-21 win.

However, despite the effective play of Veltman and Bere, Ryerson once again found their footing midway through the fourth and final set, as they escaped with the 25-23 set win and the 3-1 victory.

With the loss, the Mustangs now play for bronze on Saturday afternoon against host Waterloo at 3pm.
