London, ON – The Mustangs men's soccer team battled for the 1-0 win against the Guelph Gryphons Sunday afternoon at Mustangs Field.
An exciting neutral start, as both teams fought hard in the intensive half. Despite the Mustangs efforts to create scoring opportunities they were unable to convert. Western had the shot advantage of 6-3; however, the first half ended tied at 0-0.
The first half began neck and neck with the Mustangs and Gryphons hungry for the first goal in a tight matchup.
"We need to recognize that this is a process and it is not always perfect. Throughout the season if we continue to build and train like we have and come to sessions and games with the same attitude things will end up turning in our favor" said Parker Seymour, Mustangs Associate Head Coach.
In the 76
th minute Mustangs took the lead as Anthony Chrysanthou got a chance on a breakaway and sealed it away making the score 1-0.
"I was out on the wing, came into the middle and saw the space from behind where we don't get a lot of balls. The goalie came out, I used this to my advantage and put it beside him", said Chrysanthou.
The Mustangs are back at Mustangs Field Saturday September 21
st against the Brock Badgers for a 3:15pm kick off.
