Mustangs blank Algoma twice in weekend series

Sault Ste. Marie, ON - Western traveled to Sault Ste. Marie to meet with the Algoma Thunderbirds for their season opening matches. 

The Western Mustangs took the field with confidence and the game saw many of their first year players making an impact on the field. 

Giulia ?????Geraci scored her first three goals of the season in the first half of play, one being off an assist from Morgan Asling. 

Just before half, first year player Nicole Caduro scored her first goal of her university career off an assist from Morgan Asling making the score 4-0 going into the second half. 

The opening goal of the second half came from first year player Sabine Gillie- Hardy who made her way on the score sheet after netting a goal that was assisted by Melanie Walters. 

Soon after, first year player Alyssa Rizzo made her mark on the field and netted a goal.

The Mustangs would finish with a 6-0 win on the day.
 
Western would return to the field Sunday for their second match against Algoma.

The Mustangs opened the match with a goal from Melanie Walters in the 12th minute of play off a cross from Mackenzie Cabral-Rauti.  

The game would then remain in deadlock until the 81min when Alyssa Rizzo found Giulia Geraci's feet, giving Giulia her fourth goal of the weekend.

Three minutes later Rizzo would again find Nicole Caduro who then scored her second goal of the weekend.

Then in the 90th minute Nikki Balachorek would strike the ball to score a goal off an assist from Hannah Vickers making the score 4-0 for Western, which would hold up as the final. 

The Mustangs prepare for a pair of games next weekend, home to Laurier on Friday and then on the road Sunday to McMaster.
