Sproviero nets a hat-trick in a 9-4 routing of York

Toronto, ON – Franco Sproviero led the way with a hat trick as the Mustangs rode a strong second half of the game to a 9-4 win over the York Lions Saturday night.

The Mustangs scored seven unanswered goals en route to their second win in as many nights.

After York went up 2-0 the Mustangs would respond when Zach Core came down the wing and threw the puck to the front of the net, it hit a leg a banked in to cut the Lions lead to 2-1.

After the Lions went up 3-1, Franco Sproviero would step into a snapshot from the blueline and send it past the York goaltender to pull within a goal.

With just under two minutes left, The Mustangs gained the zone when Anthony Stefano made a touch pass to Theo Lewis who got the shot off and Stefano would grab the rebound and throw the puck off the York goaltender and in to tie the game at 3-3.

The Mustangs would take their first lead of the game at the midway point of the 2nd period. On a three on one, Ethan Szypula skated down the wing and sent the cross-ice pass to Alex Di Carlo who fired the one-timer in to take a 4-3 Mustangs lead.

Franco Sproviero would net his second of the night when he was sent into the York zone on a breakaway and buried the puck to take a 5-3 lead.

After the Mustangs extended the lead to 6-3, Szypula slid the puck to Cordell James who then led a one-timer to Sproviero didn't miss on his third goal of the night and his tenth of the season for the Western rookie.

The purple and white would add two more goals, one from Theo Lewis and another from Reed Morison to round out the route of the York Lions.

The Mustangs pick up another much needed two points and that moves them to 17 points, one behind Lakehead who sit in 6th spot in the West.

Western will head down the 401 to Waterloo next Friday night to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. Puck drop is 7:07 pm and fans can catch all the action on OUA.tv.
