Box Score London, ON - The Women faced off against the Windsor Lancers on Friday night. It was a battle as the match went into 5 sets and two sets went into extra points.
Melissa Langegger and Kate Ferguson led the Mustangs in kills for the night with 15. Rachael Grove led both teams in service aces with 6 while Kate Van Camp led both teams in digs with 12.
The Mustangs and the Lancers split the first two points of the night as the early portion of the set was a battle. The Lancers took the first two point lead of the game with a score of 5-3, but kills from Kate Ferguson and Rachael Grove tied the set at 6. The Lancers were quick to regain their lead as they brought the set to 10-6 heading into a Western timeout. A big kill from Melissa Langegger helped the Mustangs gain momentum as they shortened the Lancers' lead to 11-9. Another massive kill from Melissa Langegger ended a long rally to bring the score to 13-10 for the Lancers. The score stood at 15-13 for the Lancers as Chloe Biel was substituted in to serve. The Mustangs tied the game at 15 with a big double block from Rachael Grove and Kate Ferguson and went on to lead the set 16-15 heading into the technical timeout. Supported by Chloe Biel's strong serving the Mustangs went on to extend their lead to 17-15. The Lancers were quick to answer back as they retook the lead in the set with a score of 19-16 heading into another Mustangs' timeout. The Mustangs fought back and shortened the Lancers' lead to 20-19, before a kill from Kate Ferguson tied the set at 20. A service ace from Kate Van Camp gave Western a 21-20 lead, but the Lancers were quick to tie it at 21. The Mustangs went on to win the first set 25-21 with a service ace from Rachael Grove and a kill from Melissa Langegger. The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Lancers quickly gained a 5-2 lead in the second set, before a big solo block from Kristina Curcin regained the serve for the Mustangs. The Mustangs continued to slowly eat away at the Lancers' lead as a kill from Rachael Grove brought the score to 8-7. A kill from Melissa Langegger tied the set at 8, before a kill from Kate Ferguson gave the Mustangs a 9-8 lead. The Lancers struggled to defend against Rachael Grove's serving allowing the Mustangs to grow their lead to 12-8. Two big kills from Kate Ferguson extended the Mustangs' lead to 14-9. The Lancers answered back and tied the set at 15. The Mustangs were quick to regain their lead with a score of 16-15 heading into the technical timeout. The Lancers tied the set once again at 17, before taking the lead 18-17. The Lancers went on to win the set 25-19 and tied the match at 1.
The early portion of the third set was a battle as neither team was able to gain a sizeable lead over the other. A big block from Kate Ferguson gave the Mustangs a 5-4 lead, but the set was quickly tied at 5. The Lancers took the first two point lead of the set with a score of 7-5. A kill from Kate Ferguson tied the set at 7 and another kill from Kate Ferguson gave the Mustangs a 8-7 lead. A kill from Melissa Langegger tied the set at 9. A big play from Rachael Grove kept a long rally alive and allowed the Mustangs to tie the set at 10. The Lancers regained their lead with a score of 13-10 heading into a Mustangs timeout. The Mustangs gained momentum after the timeout with back to back kills from Melissa Langegger and Kristina Curcin which allowed the Mustangs to tie up the set at 13. With the scoreboard showing a 15-14 lead for the Lancers Maya Kelly was substituted into serve. She quickly earned a service ace which tied the set at 15. However, it was the Lancers that led 16-15 heading into the technical timeout. The Mustangs came out of the timeout fired up and quickly regained a 17-16 lead. The set became a battle once again as it became tied at 18 and again at 20. A block from Melissa Langegger gave the Mustangs a 21-20 lead, but it the set was once again tied at 21. A kill from Kristina Curcin contributed to the Mustangs regaining a 23-21 lead late in the set. The Lancers tied the set at 24 forcing the set into extra points. The Lancers went on to win the set 26-24 and took a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Mustangs took an early 3-1 lead in the fourth set with kills from Kristina Curcin and Rachael Grove. Western grew their lead to 8-3 with a kill from Kate Ferguson and a big double block from Kate Ferguson and Rachael Grove. A service ace from Kate Van Camp extended the Mustangs' lead to 9-3. The Lancers began to shorten the Mustangs' lead, but kills from Melissa Langegger and Kristina Curcin brought the score to 14-7 for Western. The Mustangs continued to gain momentum as they led 16-11 heading into the technical timeout. A service ace from Kate Van Camp brought the Mustangs' lead to 20-12 as the Lancers called a timeout. A kill from Rachael Grove followed by a block by Rachael Grove brought the score to 22-12. A kill from Kate Van Camp and two kills from Melissa Langegger allowed the Mustangs to win the fourth set 25-18. The match was tied at 2-2, forcing a fifth set.

The Lancers tied the set at one, but another kill from Kristina Curcin regained a 2-1 lead for the Mustangs. The Mustangs grew their lead to 4-2 with a kill from Kate Van Camp, but the Lancers once again tied the set at 4. A kill from Kate Ferguson grew the Mustangs lead to 6-5. The Lancers managed to tie the set at 6, but another kill from Kate Ferguson regained the lead for the Mustangs. The set remained a battle, but it was the Mustangs that led 8-7 as the teams switched sides. A kill from Kristina Curcin brought the score to 10-8, but the Lancers managed to tie the set at 10. With the scoreboard showing a 11-10 lead for the Mustangs Chloe Biel was substituted in to serve. She earned a service ace, extending the Mustangs' lead to 12-10. The set was once again tied at 13, before the Lancers took the lead 14-13. A kill from Kate Ferguson tied the set at 14 and forced the set into extra points. A service ace from Carly Kimmett brought the score to 15-14 before the set was tied at 15 and again at 16. A massive kill from Kristina Curcin gave the Mustangs a 17-16 lead, but the Lancers tied the set once more. The Lancers took a 18-17 lead and went on to win the set 19-17. The Lancers won the match 3-2.
