A pair of wins book the Mustangs ticket to OUA Baseball Championship

Waterloo, ON - Western made their way to Waterloo on the weekend as they joined Waterloo,  Laurier & Windsor in the OUA Regional Qualifier at Jack Couch Park; Bechtel Field.
 
The event started with the Mustangs taking on the defending OUA Champion Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.

Western weathered a scare by Laurier in the fifth inning where the Mustangs coughed up three runs, but still won 7-3 on Sunday.
 
The Mustangs opened the scoring in the second inning, when Jackson VanBakel grounded out, scoring one run.
 
Western notched three runs in the fourth inning. Daniel Battel and Austin Wilkie each drove in runs during the inning.
 
Logan McKnight earned the win for Western. McKnight lasted four innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out five. Justin Teichman threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
Bryce O'Farrell had the lone home run of the game for Western.
 
In the afternoon the Mustangs took on Waterloo for a berth in the OUA Championship.

Joshua Krautner led the Western on the mound lasting three innings, allowing five hits and three runs as the Mustangs topped Waterloo 8-5.

Western had a breakout inning in the 3rd inning when they put up 5 runs which led them to the win.
 
The Mustangs racked up 12 hits in the game, spreading out the offence across the lineup. Christian DelGiudice, Austin Wilkie, Bryce O'Farrell, and William Marini each had multiple hits for Western.
 
Tiger McDonald and Jacob Schuurmann entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Western now heads to the OUA Championship this weekend (Oct. 17) hosted by the Toronto Varsity Blues at Ajax Sportsplex, looking for their first title since 2016. The Mustangs join McMaster, Carleton and host Toronto with the OUA Banner on the line.
