WATERLOO, ON – The Mustangs took the 401 North East to face divisional opponent, the Waterloo Warriors, for the first time this season. Western scored early and often leading to their 48 – 13 victory which brings their regular season record up to 4 -1.
Western opened the scoring early with an excellent play that showed off Evan Hillock's arm at QB and Savaughn Magnaye-Jones' legs as his receiver. The play set the tone and the Mustangs never looked back. Hillock and Magnaye-Jones attended St. Thomas Moore in Hamilton, ON and the chemistry the pair have is clear.
Magnaye-Jones' role has only grown as the season has progressed, in part due to his high school connection in his QB. He finished the game with 2 key touchdowns that showed off not only his hands and skill at the position but the Mustangs depth all around the roster.
Keon Edwards, yet again, had a dominating performance in the backfield. When running up the middle and collecting first downs consistently wasn't enough, Coach Greg Marshall sent Edwards to the outside late in the 1st quarter for a 97-yard touchdown, his second of the game.
Edwards allows the Mustangs versatility as well as intimidating the opponent and the Mustangs imminent ground game. Edwards finished with 3 Touchdowns through the contest and ran for over 235 yards.
Unsung hero, and kicker, Brian Garrity split the uprights 2 more times in the afternoon game adding all of his PAT kicks as well.
The Mustangs started strong, holding on to a 41-7 lead at the half and continued to play sound defense to secure the win. With the offence firing on all cylinders, it is only natural the defense should follow suit and against Waterloo they did just that.
Western rounds out their regular season next weekend when they head Windsor to take on the Lancers on Saturday, October, 30 for a 2:00pm kick-off. Fans can watch the action on OUA.tv
