Shiddo becomes all-time leading scorer as Mustangs drop Algoma 91-70

London, ON – It was a record-breaking night at Alumni Hall as Omar Shiddo became the programs all-time leading scorer and the Mustangs won 91-70 over Algoma on Friday night.

The Mustangs came out with a full force effort that ran heavily through Shiddo, the Mustangs 5th year guard, who dropped 15 points on the 1st quarter alone.

"I don't think that strays from any regular game plan, we're going to get Omar plenty of touches," said Mustangs Head Coach Brad Campbell "He's going to be one of the better scorers all year in the league as he has been in past years."

Coming into the night, Shiddo trailed Greg Morrow by 17 points for the all-time program point lead.

"Things like that you're always aware of, some players might say they aren't but I was fully aware, I've been thinking about it all summer" said Shiddo.

The Mustangs would drop another 19 points in the second quarter and 40-26 advantage at the break.

"I think we did enough tonight to get the win but I've said it before, we're a work in progress and we have some young guys were counting on to step up," said Campbell "At times it might not look fantastic but other times there are some really good things happening with our group,"

In the 3rd quarter the record breaking moment came when Shiddo drove the Algoma lane and dropped a lay in to push his career total to 1852 and take over the program record.

"I was so into the game at the time that I don't think I knew that it had happened because I started out strong and then a missed a few," said Shiddo "I could hear the crowd, my parents and my boys and everyone so all I knew at that point was that I was passed it."

"He did Omar things tonight and we are really happy for him," said Campbell of Shiddo "It's nice, I think to get that taken care of now and we're going to rely on him all year not only for his scoring but his veteran leadership too,

The Thunderbirds would mount a bit of a comeback in the 3rd quarter as they would match the Mustangs with 27 points each in the frame but Western would close out the game with 24 ore points in the 4th quarter to finish out the win.

Algoma and Western will meet up again on Saturday afternoon.

"It's a unique situation this season with so many back to back games against teams," said Campbell "Win or lose you have to turn the page quick and get ready for tomorrow and anticipate changes their going to make and make some adjustments of our own,"
