Today, the Western Mustangs community is recognizing 2020-21 Purple Blanket Award Winner Giulia Geraci of the Western Mustangs Women's Soccer Team.

Purple Blanket Awards are granted to students who, often in their graduating year, are nominated by their coaches and chosen by members of the Selection Committee. Nominated individuals must have been a Western Mustangs student athlete for a minimum of three (3) years, have received a minimum of three (3) First Colour Awards throughout their career, and have been an active participant in their respective sport at the time of recommendation.

Geraci is part of the Western Mustangs Women's Soccer Team and has been playing for the Mustangs since 2017. She has won four (4) First Colour Awards throughout her career and has been an OUA 1st Team All Star for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. In her 2017-18 season, she was awarded U Sports Rookie of the Year, and she contributed to her team placing second in the OUA Championships in 2017 and 2018 and fourth place in 2019.

Geraci has been featured as the Western Mustangs Athlete of the Week on multiple occasions, and was featured as an OUA and U Sports Athlete of the Week in 2019.

Mustangs Women's Soccer Head Coach Martin Painter noted that Geraci was an "outstanding Student-Athlete" since the debut of her career at Western. "[Geraci] was consistently among our top scorers... She was integral in leading our team to 2 OUA West Division Championships and 3 straight OUA Final Four appearances," noted Coach Painter. 

Geraci is currently finishing her degree in Kinesiology from Western and is pursuing a minor in Geography.
