Purple Blanket Awards are granted to students who, often in their graduating year, are nominated by their coaches and chosen by members of the Selection Committee. Nominated individuals must have been a Western Mustangs student athlete for a minimum of three (3) years, have received a minimum of three (3) First Colour Awards throughout their career, and have been an active participant in their respective sport at the time of recommendation.

Bowery has served as the Mustang's Men's Golf Team Captain for the past three seasons, and has been part of the team since his first year in 2016. Bowery has won four (4) First Colour Awards throughout his career, and was a part of the OUA All Star 2nd Team in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

Bowery, in the most recent 2019-20 season, was the Golf Team's M.V.P., and has helped his team place in multiple OUA and Golf Canada National Championships. Individually, Bowery tied for first place last season at the Golf Canada National Championships, which was a record placing for the Western Mustangs.  

The Mustangs Men's Golf Head Coach Jim Waite noted Bowery's leadership and encouragement, in addition to his contributions to the program. "He has brought credit and recognition to our program which was recently ranked second in Canadian University Golf. He has made Western very proud of his leadership and competitive ability." said Coach Waite. 

Bowery is finishing up his Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies at Western, specializing in Accounting.
