Purple Blanket Awards are granted to students who, often in their graduating year, are nominated by their coaches and chosen by members of the Selection Committee. Nominated individuals must have been a Western Mustangs student athlete for a minimum of three (3) years, have received a minimum of three (3) First Colour Awards throughout their career, and have been an active participant in their respective sport at the time of recommendation.

Jennifer

Nwamadi is part of the Western Mustangs Wrestling Team and has been competing since 2018. She has won three (3) First Colour Awards throughout her career and participated in Flag Football in addition to her commitments to the Wrestling Team. In the 2019-20 season, Nwamadi was an OUA 1st Team All Star. She led her team to victory in the 2018-19 season where the team came fourth in the OUA and ninth in the U Sports Championship. In the 2019-20 season, she helped her team place second in the OUA and fifth in the U Sports Championship. Individually, she placed fourth in the OUA and sixth in U Sports in the 2018-19 season. In her 2019-20 season, she placed first in the OUA and third in the U Sports Championship, in addition to winning the 2020 OUA and U Sports Female Community Service Award.

Wrestling Head Coach Scott Proctor described Nwamadi as a "valuable member" of the team and noted her impact on the team as a whole. "[Nwamadi] is a very dedicated and committed athlete. [She] always has a positive attitude at practices and was one of the hardest workers in the practice room. I am confident that if we had a wrestling season this year, [Nwamadi] would have been a legitimate contender for both the OUA and U Sports Championships." said Coach Proctor.

Nwamadi is finishing her degree in Medical Science from Western. Outside of her participation on the Wrestling Team, Nwamadi has volunteered with multiple organizations, including literacy organizations, research labs, and her local church.

On behalf of all Western Mustangs, we want to congratulate Jennifer Nwamadi for winning a 2020-21 Purple Blanket Award!
