Purple Blanket Awards are granted to students who, often in their graduating year, are nominated by their coaches and chosen by members of the Selection Committee. Nominated individuals must have been a Western Mustangs student athlete for a minimum of three (3) years, have received a minimum of three (3) First Colour Awards throughout their career, and have been an active participant in their respective sport at the time of recommendation.

Natalie Li

Li has been part of the Western Mustangs Figure Skating Team since 2017. She has been awarded four (4) First Colour Awards over her four years with the Mustangs and has been a Team Captain of the team for the past two seasons. She was an OUA All Star for the 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, and in the same seasons, lead her team to victory in placing second in the OUA. In her 2018-19 season, she was the Team M.V.P. Throughout her career, Li has been a Gold Ladies OUA Champion twice, and a member of the OUA Pairs Four Championship team twice. In addition, she has been a Gold Similar Paris champion and a member of the Synchronized Skating Championship team.

Former Head Coach of the Figure Skating Team, Alma Moir, noted Li's achievements from her first year, including being the highest point earner skater for her team. "Her skating achievements speak for themselves but what made her an integral part of the Mustangs Figure Skating program during her four years were her other admirable attributes. Great work ethics, reliability, role model and leadership are among these. Always first and last on the ice, she led by example during practices." said Coach Moir. She noted Li's role as Team Captain and how Li continuously "encouraged [the team] to collaborate and work towards the team goals and not just individual ones."

Li is in the process of finishing her degree from the Medical Science program at Western.

The Western Mustangs want to thank Natalie Li for her contributions to Mustangs Sport; congratulations on winning a 2020-21 Purple Blanket Award.
