Head Coach Brad Campbell of the Western Mustangs Men's Basketball team recently announced that he will also be helping the Guelph Nighthawks for their current season.
When detailing his role as an Assistant Coach with the team, Coach Campbell noted that some of his tasks include practice instruction, player development, and film work.
Coach Campbell was drawn to the idea of working alongside Head Coach and General Manager Charles Kissi – a former colleague. "Knowing Coach Kissi from his days at Brock University, I thought it would be a great development opportunity to learn from someone who has wealth of basketball knowledge and professional coaching experience with the Raptors 905 and at NBA level."
During his time with the Nighthawks, Coach Campbell made it clear that he has his sights set on winning the CEBL Championship. Aside from that, the road to winning a championship will provide him with valuable experience. "It also gives me a chance to meet and work with other coaches and staff who are incredibly hard working and on the cutting edge of modern basketball techniques and ideas."
Coach Campbell is looking forward to "take all the things [he] will learn back to Western to help improve the program and players." He also hopes to transfer his experience with Western to benefit the Nighthawks. "I think my experience will benefit in my coaching with Guelph in that I can bring a different perspective on the game and have been through many of the challenges that teams face throughout a season."
With the pandemic putting a halt on competitive sport in many areas, Coach Campbell is looking forward to resuming his work as a coach. "I miss the daily interactions with our student athletes and staff. The daily pursuit to be our best and pursue a common in a highly competitive environment are among the things I miss most."
