Mustangs finish 1-2 at OUA Far West Regional Qualifier

Windsor, ON - A shot at the OUA Championship was on the line in Windsor this weekend as the Mustangs headed down the 401 to Windsor for the OUA Baseball Far West Qualifier.

In the opening game of the event the Mustangs took on the host Windsor Lancers, picking up a 14-3 win. Western had a pair of big innings, putting up 5 runs in the 4th inning and then 4 more in the 6th inning en route to the win. Joshua Krautner pitched 6 innings for the Mustangs with 6 strikeouts. Justin Hicks had 3 hits and 3 RBIs in the win.

On Friday afternoon the Mustangs took on Laurier. The Golden Hawks got on the board quickly as they scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning to put Western on their heels. Jacob Schuurmann was on the mound for the Mustangs and went 7 innings. Western scored runs in the 4th & 6th innings to pull within a run but Laurier added 2 runs in the top of the 9th inning to take a 5-2 win and push the Mustangs record to 1-1.

On Saturday afternoon the Mustangs would meet the Waterloo Warriors with a spot in the finals on the line. Both teams came out of the gates swinging as Waterloo scored 3 in the top of the 1st and Western answered with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st. Waterloo would go up 6-2 through 4 innings but the bats of the Warriors took over in the top of 6th inning when Waterloo scored 8 runs to extend their lead and would hold on to finish the game through 7 innings 15-4. 

The Mustangs season comes to an end, Waterloo won the qualifier and will head to the OUA Championship on Oct. 14-15.
