London, ON- Mustangs came out hard against the Lancers, but couldn't complete the comeback and lost 5-2 in Windsor in the first game of their double header. The Mustangs will look to turn the tables against Windsor tomorrow.
The opposing Windsor Lancers came out strong in the first, outshooting the Mustangs and controlling lots of the play, putting the Mustangs on their heels. The Lancers were able to capitalize on these strong chances and go up 2-0 in the first, leaving the Mustangs scoreless after the first.
The second period saw lots of special teams and scoring action, creating an exciting period and giving the Mustangs some hope halfway through the game.
Seven minutes into the second period, forward Mathew MacDougall took advantage of a Windsor defenceman turnover in Mustangs end and carried the puck into the Lancer's end on an odd man rush. MacDougall passed it back to Boushy who slid it to Sean Montgomery to slot his sixth of the year. This goal made it 2-1 Windsor and brought it within 1 goal.
Just 50 seconds later, Windsor came back down and scored, killing Western's momentum and making it 3-1 Lancers. However, just over a minute later, Western's Shane Bulitka notched his first of the year, off a goal from a successful 3-on-2 chance.
Three minutes later at 12:16 in the second, Windsor stole a shorthanded goal to give themselves insurance making it 4-2 Lancers. They were able to finish through the rest of the second up 4-2.
The third period consisted of lots of back and forth chances, with Western's goalie Myskiw making lots of saves to keep Western in the game. The period went scoreless until late in the third when Windsor was able to capitalize on an empty Western net, making the final score 5-2 Lancers.
Western hits the ice again tomorrow for the second leg of the doubleheader in Windsor. They will look to steal a win back from the Lancers. Puck-drop is at 7:30pm and can be watched on OUA.tv.
