London, ON- The Mustangs put up a hard fight but fall to the Windsor Lancers 1-0 in their first game of their double header. The Mustangs will look for a win against the Lancers tomorrow.
The Mustangs and Lancers are very well matched as the entire first period had great back and forth action. The Mustangs offense had several amazing scoring opportunities but couldn't seem capitalize on them. The Mustangs defense stood solid against the Lancers chances as well. The Lancers get the first power play of the game from a body checking penalty taken by Bellamy from the Mustangs. With one extra player, the Lancers, with 35 seconds left on the power play, score a goal creating a lead of 1-0. Lancers, Jaden Cherry, generates this goal assisted by Rylee Hogan.
The later half of the period continues with thrilling battles from both teams. Another power play opportunity for the Lancer comes just before the end of the first, but with Booth making several impressive saves, the Lancers did not add another goal to the scoreboard with the advantage of a power play. The first period ends with the Lancers up 1-0.
As the opposing Lancers put the Mustangs on their heels, the second period starts with nail-biting action in the Lancer's zone. The Mustangs get their second penalty of the game for hooking, but their penalty kill keeps the Lancers from making it a 2-0 game. With half the second period to go, the Lancers are holding onto their 1-0 lead as Western puts pressure on, in hopes to tie the game up. The end of the second period comes with the Lancers still up by 1.
The third period starts off with the Mustangs fighting hard to get an even score on the board. A penalty against the Windsor Lancers creates a power play for the Mustangs with a perfect opportunity to tie the score, but a trip called against the Mustangs shortly after creates a 4 on 4 which leaves the Mustangs with no advantage. The third period, much like the first and second, has wild back and forth action.
The later half of the third period is filled with activity as the Mustangs fight hard to put the puck in the back of the Lancers net. With 3 minutes left in the third period, the Mustangs have an extra player on the ice from a powerplay, another opportune time to tie it up. Unfortunately, even with a suspenseful power play and the empty net from Booth, the Mustangs were not able to tie the score up making the final score 1-0 for the Windsor Lancers.
Western will look to steal back a win from the Lancers at their next game tomorrow, November 19th, at 7:00pm in London. Be sure to watch the live action of that game at OUA.tv.
