London, ON- The Western Mustangs fall to the Windsor Lancers in a thrilling, action packed battle. This was the final game in the double header series between the Mustangs and the Lancers.

Last night the Mustangs fell to the Windsor Lancers 1-0 in a riveting, well fought battle. Tonight, they are looking to take back a win in their final game in the double header against the Lancers in London.

The Mustangs came out hard in the beginning of the first period as the majority of the game was in the Lancer's zone. There were several amazing scoring opportunities as the Mustangs offense put the Lancers on their heels right away. With the first penalty of the game, taken by Lancer's Maggie Mitani, the Mustangs applied even more pressure, but couldn't capitalize on their power play.

Towards the end of the first period, the Mustangs are eager to get a score on the board as they kill off a penalty taken by Western's Selena Dirven with ease. But with 3 minutes left in the first, the Lancers take advantage of a 2 on 1 play, and are up 1-0; the goal was passed from Jaden Cherry to Jessica Gribbon, the Lancer's captain. The Mustangs, very soon after, respond back to the Lancers goal and get the puck in the back of Windsor's net. The first faceoff after a Lancers penalty was called, Gabrielle Lehoux tied the score up 1-1, assisted by Emma Campbell and Haylie Kirkpatrick, ending off the first period on a good note.

The second period starts out with intense action from both teams, the Mustangs come out strong, anxious to get another goal and take the lead. The Lancers match the Mustangs energy and apply pressure back to their opposing team. A nail biting first half of the second period comes to an end, keeping with the constant theme of back and forth action from these two teams. A penalty taken by Madelaine DesRosiers for boarding gives the Lancers a one player advantage which they capitalize on, and with 1 minute left in the second period, the score is 2-1 Lancers. The tension looms on the ice as the Lancers are up by 1 at the end of the second period.

The third period starts off with two penalties taken by the Mustangs for hooking then boarding. With five Lancers against three Mustangs, Lancers Keana McKibbon, with a top-shelf goal from Maggie Peterson and Jessica Legault, makes it a 3-1 game. The Lancers take their third penalty of the night giving the Mustangs a chance to get the score closer to a tied game, but the power play ends with no Mustang goal scored.

The end of the third period comes as the score stays at 3-1 Lancers. Western's coach, Candice Moxley, says, "We got ourselves into some situations where we stopped moving our feet and we started taking a lot more penalties, I mean you can't win a hockey game down a player. We just had to find a way to battle back and, unfortunately tonight, it wasn't going in our direction."

Westerns Caitlin Booth is pulled with less than 2 minutes left in the third which allows the Mustangs to apply serious pressure to the Lancers. The Lancers get a lucky empty net goal with 30 second left in the third to bring the score up to 4-1. The Mustangs continue to fight hard and bring their energy nearing the end of the third, but no luck is coming their way, even with the several opportunities. The game ends with the score as 4-1 Windsor Lancers.

Moxley states, "I feel like when we were five on five and we were going and competing, I thought that we were the better team. But, unfortunately, when we can't sustain that and we lose momentum because of the penalty situations, then its tough to battle back. It's really hard to get that momentum back in your direction."

The Mustangs next game, against the Waterloo Warriors, is on November 25th, at 7:00pm in Waterloo. Be sure to watch the live action of that game at OUA.tv
