11/19/2022 11:10:00 PM

Box Score Toronto, ON – The Mustangs took on York for the second night of their back-to-back, winning 3-1 to sweep the weekend series.

The two teams faced off last night with the purple and white proving victorious in a five-set thriller.

The Mustangs got off to an electric start, winning the first set 25-16. York bounced back taking the second by the same score, before Western won the next two 25-23 and 25-14 to secure the win.

Janelle Albert led the way for the 'Stangs with 19 kills and 2 aces, while Jaeya Brach had 11 kills of her own. Kate Van Camp had 7 kills to her name along with 3 aces.

Western doubled up on York early on at 10-5 to kick-start the double header. At 19-13, Brach came out with an ace after a Lions timeout as the purple and white began to run away with the set.

A service error by York concluded the set, as the 'Stangs took the opener with ease 25-16.

The second set seemed to be an opposite of the first.

The Lions took a 4-1 lead to start the second, which they soon extended to 8-4 as they looked to turn things around.

With the hosts ahead at 22-13, a Brach kill looked to ignite a comeback. With Kate Van Camp at the service line, a York fault added another point to make things 22-15.

While the Mustangs initially saved set-point off a block, the Lions would take this one 25-16.

An Albert kill tied things up at 2 for Western to start the third set, while a Van Camp ace tied things up again at 5, before the hosts won the next three points.

After getting a kill, Brach went to serve in which a Lindsay Kleuskens block and a York error tied things up yet again at 8, as this set proved to be tighter than the previous two.

The Lions took a timeout at 13-10, as an Albert kill and Hannah Joo ace helped the 'Stangs gain a small lead. Ava Ebert secured back-to-back kills to put Western ahead 16-11, before adding an ace to her name moments later for a 18-12 score line.

The hosts would go on a heater of their own, reducing the deficit to two at 19-17. While a Western block and Devin Gerth kill hoped to keep a lead for the 'Stangs, things would be tied at 21.

An Albert kill would give set-point to the 'Stangs, which she finished off with another kill for a final 25-23 set score.

Western got out to an early 7-1 lead in the fourth set as they looked to prevent this one from going to a fifth like the night prior.

A Van Camp ace would see the Mustangs triple up on the Lions at 12-4, as the purple and white continued to pile on the pressure.

After an Ebert block made the score read 16-7, York won the next four consecutive points to cut their deficit to 5 while causing Western to take a timeout.

Western would prove to be too much for their opponent however, as a Van Camp ace concluded the game as the 'Stangs took the fourth 25-14.

With the win Western improves to 4-1 on the season, while York drops to 2-4.

The Mustangs return home on Friday, Nov. 25 to host Trent at Alumni Hall. Game time is set for 6pm with tickets being available to purchase at westernmustangs.ca
