Painter named OUA Women's Soccer (West) Coach of the Year & 4 recognized as OUA All-Stars

London, ON - For the third time in his tenure with the Mustangs, Martin Painter has been recognized with the OUA Coach of the Year (West) award.

He led the Mustangs to a 9-2-1 record this season. which was the best in the OUA West.

Painter does double duty as he also oversees the Men's Soccer program. The women's team was consistently in the U SPORTS top-10 rankings this season and finished the season with 29 goals scored (6th in OUA) while only allowing 10 against.

Since becoming head coach for Western in 2012, Painter has led the Mustangs to five division titles, nine consecutive playoff appearances, and five silver medal finishes on the conference stage, including the most recent in 2021.

Painter was previously recognized as Coach of the Year in 2013 & 2017. 

The OUA also announced the 2022 All-Star class which included four Mustangs. Three Mustangs were named 1st Team All-Stars including Avarie Thomas at Defender, Medina Birani at Midfield & Mackenzie Bilotta at Striker. Maya Lankin was recongized as a 2nd Team All-Star at Defender.

The Mustangs will be in action Wednesday night on Mustangs Field at 7pm as they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the OUA Semi-Finals.
