Western Hosts Brock in Overtime Barn Burner

LONDON, ON - This game was book ended with Mustang goals within the first minute of regulation and the dying minutes of Overtime. Western had momentum early and often but Brock battled late to force extra time, ultimately ending in their 4-3 Defeat.

Emily Ignagni opened the games scoring early in the game and set the pace for the game.

Ignagni finished the game with 1 goal and 2 assists for a total of 3 points in a game where the Mustangs scored 4. Offensive production from her and the other Mustangs defenseman proved crucial in the Saturday afternoon game.

Western started the game with heavy firepower scoring 2 goals in the first period. Assistant Coach Blair Webster commented on the teams new found scoring ability.

"I don't think we were that bad in the first half of the season, our record shows differently but we were still in every game, lost 2 in overtime, we just weren't scoring goals. 3 goals in both games that's the most we've gotten all year and 2 wins. Our focus is to get more shots on net, more scoring opportunities. We're pretty confident on the defensive side"

He followed it up with this, "The girls are focused and they came out, for the most part did a really good job, we stumbled a bit in the second but the focus and energy is there and its certainly nice to get 2 wins this weekend"

During the second period the Badgers were allowed to score some goals and make it's way back into the game. The period ended in a 3-2 lead for the Mustangs. Despite the hot handed Brock offense Western maintained the lead heading into the third. Goaltender Kaitlyn Booth said post game.

"It was a battle, obviously we got the 2 early and we had to overcome some adversity there but the team kept scoring goals for me, I was just trying to take it minute by minute and make the saves that I could."

Brock pulled their goalie late in the third and managed to tie the game in the final minutes of regulation.

Western's captain Emma Suitor was able to retaliate in overtime and deliver her Mustangs the win.

Suitor commented post game.

"This was my first game in two years, after I tore my ACL, so it felt good to be back and I couldn't have asked for a better ending."

A triumphant return for both Suitor and the Mustangs, who are now undefeated in their last 3 games.
