Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Payton Harrison

Mustangs remain undefeated at home winning 10-0 against Algoma

London, ON - Coming off of a successful 6-point weekend, the Western men's soccer team had an exciting 10-0 win against the Algoma Thunderbirds.

The Mustangs had a strong offensive presence throughout the game, led by Strikers Ehsan Hirji and Jamu Iluya.

Iluya led the charge, scoring his first of the game only eight minutes in, off of a cross ball from Hirji.  Hirji saw success early today aswell, scoring on a breakaway pass sent from first-year Thomas Ribiero in the 13th minute.

The end of the first half resulted in two more goals, scored by Iluya and Ribiero, putting the mustangs up 4-0 going into halftime.

The second half brought more excitement and scoring, with Jamu Iluya and Ehsan Hirji scoring a minute apart to start the half. This was Iluya's fifth and Ehsan's third of the season so far.

Second-year Charlie Bontis also had a standout game, getting his first and second of the season within two minutes at the 57th minute mark of the game.

In the last twenty minutes, defenseman Aidan Bauer Marr notched his first and second goals of the season, scoring on a penalty kick and then beating the defensemen and scoring again in the last few minutes.

"I missed a penalty earlier in the season, so I was given one more chance and had to bury it." said goalscorer Bauer Marr "It feels nice to score goals especially as a defender".

"We came into this game pretty confident after a 6 point weekend last weekend, and wanted to build on that as a team." "We really feel like we can do something special this year."

Head coach Martin Painter said "I was happy with the team's performance, I thought they moved the ball very well and created a lot of chances. We're a well rounded attacking team and I think that showed today."

The Mustangs will face Algoma again this Sunday the 18th for an afternoon match. Kick-off is at 3:15pm.
