Guelph, ON - The Mustangs Men's Lacrosse team faced one of their biggest challenges this past weekend as they took on the Guelph Gryphons in a highly anticipated rivalry, facing their first loss of the season with a final score of 12-5.
Â
Despite maintaining ball control and having numerous offensive possessions, The Mustangs trailed the Gryphons 5-3 at halftime.Â
Â
Western continued to battle against the well poised Guelph team and the Mustangs offence hit a lull in the second half. Late 4
th quarter goals from Scott Del Zotto and Jonathan Gagliardi weren't enough for the Mustangs to even the score.Â
Â
When asked about the game, Head Coach Chris Standish had some positive outlook on an early season loss, "I hoped for a better result this early in the season, Guelph has a strong team and we kept up with them for the first half. The game showed us some important areas to improve and grow which we'll get at this week."
Â
The Mustangs look to rebound on Oct 1 as the Laurier Golden Hawks visit Western for the Mustang's home opener at 7PM. Â
