Mustangs drop 1-0 shootout loss to Laurier

Waterloo, ON - The Laurier Golden Hawks took the win over the Mustangs, 1-0, in penalty shots on Friday night.

The first whistle of the game did not come until nine minutes into the period as there was non-stop back and forth action on the ice. The whistle came from a penalty called on the Golden Hawks which gave the Mustangs an opportunity to get the first goal of the game. The Mustangs played the power play well, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity to open the scoring.

The teams continued to feel each other out during the first period as there are very few scoring possibilities with much play in the middle of the ice. The Mustangs applied sustained pressure although the first twenty minutes of the game came to an end with the score as 0-0.

The first half of the second period was very much like the first. We continued awaiting for the first goal of the game as the 10 minute mark hit the second period. Mustangs goalie Ella Brabrook played extremely strong for her team as she made crucial saves in the second.

As the second period continued, the pace increased as both teams eager to beat the other to the first goal of the game.

The Golden Hawks apply immense pressure to the Mustangs defence towards the end of the second twenty minutes of the period, but the third period started with the score still remaining 0-0.

Tension was rising on the ice as there had been no pucks in net through the first half of the third period. Both teams fought hard to get themselves on the board. The Mustangs dominating towards the end of the third period as they put Golden Hawks goalie, Acadia Carlson to the test. Unfortunately, they could not get the puck in the back of the net. The third period ends 0-0 and the game went to overtime.

Overtime ends with the score remained 0-0. The game went to penalty shots, where the Golden Hawks took the win.
