London, ON – The Mustangs Women's Cross Country team finished the 2023 U SPORTS Championship with a team silver medal and Erika Jordan got a podium finish in 3rd place as the team hosted the national championship.

"We can't be unhappy that we won the silver medal, our goal was to go out there and try to win the gold but after all is said and done winning a silver medal at nationals is pretty incredible," said Mustangs Cross Country Head Coach Guy Schultz.

The Mustangs team finished with 71 points, while the UBC Thunderbirds finished in top spot with 38 points.

Jordan finished the race with a final time of 29:24.7 to win the individual bronze medal.

"Medaling wasn't an expectation (coming into the day) but as soon as I was on that last kilometre I knew there was an opportunity to get that, I was so much more motivated and it was really fun," said Jordan "Being here on the home course, there was just so much great energy out there knowing that my team was with me and so many people here supporting us, it was just so great,"

Jordan was part of a solid group of runners coming into this race, with aspirations of moving from a Second Team All-Canadian last year to a First Team All-Canadian this year, she achieved that goal with her bronze medal finish.

"We expected Erika to definitely be up there and her goal was to improve on her finish from last year and be in one of those top seven positions but to get the bronze medal individually was pretty amazing," said Schultz "She has worked so hard towards this and deserves all the accolades,"

Other Mustangs finishes include Olivia Roussel (9th), Chloe Coutts (18th), Sandra Guga (20th), Sophie Coutts (25th), Heidi Ohrling (32nd) & Anna Carruthers (65th).

On the Men's side, they finished in 8th place with a team total of 219 points.

The team's top individual finisher was Marcel Scheele who finished in 20th place with a total run time of 25:26.6.

"Our goal was to finish in our ranking coming into the event which was 6th, so finishing 8th and honestly not that far from being in that 6th place," said Schultz "I think all in all, they ran really well today,"

Other Mustangs finishes include: Ben Fox (29th), Tom Boers (65th), Owen Parkes (69th), Mark Royce (72nd),
