London, ON - Today's team recognition as part of the 2023 Mustangs Season of Celebration is the Mustangs Ringette Team.

The Mustangs put forth a dominant showing this season, going 32-3 overall this year. The annual University Challenge Cup returned to the schedule for the first time since 2019, which Western won. The purple and white began the tournament with three days of round robin, which they went 4-0 in, securing a spot in Tier 1. A 4-1 win over Laurier, an 8-1 win over Laurentian and a 2-1 win over Ottawa put the 'Stangs through to the medal round. A 10-3 win over Guelph in the gold medal game handed the 2022 University Challenge Cup to the Mustangs.Â

Following up this championship win, Western was later crowned back-to-back provincial champions at the Provincial AA Championship in Kitchener-Waterloo. The purple and white opened up the tournament with a 10-3 win over Carleton, which they followed with wins against McMaster and Brock on day two. Western then topped Nipising 10-2 before falling in their only loss of the weekend 6-3 to Guelph. In the semi-final against Ottawa, a hattrick from Laura Soper led the way to an 8-3 win, booking Western a ticket to the final against Brock. The 'Stangs ultimately won 5-3 to secure the championship. Western's Laura Soper led the tournament with 23 points, coming from 10 goals and 13 assists.Â
