Mustangs take 3 of 4 wins against York & Brock on opening weekend

London, ON – The Mustangs Baseball team had a busy weekend with four games, a pair at home against York on Saturday and a pair on the road to Brock on Sunday.

Game 1 vs. York - Fifth-Inning Outburst Leads Western Past York 8-2.
 
The Mustangs scored seven runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat York 8-2 on Saturday at Dan Pulham Field.  Will Pollard singled, scoring one run, Michael Dodaro drew a walk, scoring one run, one run scored on a balk, Spencer Shannon singled, scoring two runs, and Matt Isaacson grounded out, scoring two runs.
 
Joshua Krautner earned the win for Western. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and two runs over five innings, striking out four and walking five.  Blake Conners pitched two innings of shutout ball for Western in relief.
 
Justin Hicks, Shannon, Pollard, and Xavier Jamieson each collected one hit for the Mustangs in the win.
 
Game 2 vs. York - Blake Conners's Big Day Propels Western Past York Lions Baseball

Blake Conners drove in four runs on two hits to lead Western past York 12-0 on Saturday at Dan Pulham Field. Conners singled in the second inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring two.
 
Western opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Western first got on the board when Alex Brown singled, scoring three runs.
 
Western added two runs in the second after Conners singled.
 
Western extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Conners and Lucas Shannon.
 
Josh Neposlan earned the win for the Mustangs. He allowed four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one. Darcy D'Souza took the loss for York.
 
Western collected 12 hits in the game. Justin Hawke, Shannon, Conners, and Matt Isaacson each collected two hits for Western. Western stole three bases in the game.
 
Game 3 vs. Brock - Western ousts Brock 5-3.

Western got on the board in the top of the first inning after Xavier Jamieson grounded out, and Justin Hicks singled, each scoring one run.
 
A single by Hicks extended the Western lead to 3-0 in the top of the third inning.
 
Justin Teichman got the win for Western. The righty allowed five hits and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. Tyler Sapir pitched one and a third innings of shutout ball for Western in relief.
 
Western knocked out 10 hits in the game. Hicks and Austin Wilkie were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits while hitting back-to-back. Hicks provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Western with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 3-for-3 on the day. Ewan Ferguson collected two hits for Western in three at bats.

Game 4 vs. Brock - Mustangs Stymied By Brock in 13-6 loss.

Western opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Western first got on the board when Matt Isaacson singled, scoring one run.
 
Brock scored one run in the bottom of the second on a solo home run to center field by #3.
 
The Badgers would then flip the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs on six hits to take a 7-2 lead.
 
Justin Stonkus took the loss for Western. The righty went two and one-third innings, allowing six runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one.
 
Blake Conners drove the middle of the lineup, leading Western with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Justin Hawke, Liam Williams, Lucas Shannon, Ryan Nuernberger, Conners, Alex Brown, and Isaacson each collected a hit for the Mustangs. Western ran wild on the base paths, collecting seven stolen bases for the game.

Western will have a four-game road trip next weekend when they travel to Sudbury on Saturday (Sept. 16 at 12PM & 3PM) to take on Laurentian and then Waterloo on Sunday (Sept. 17 at 11 AM & 2 PM) to take on the Warriors.
