Waterloo, ON - The Warriors emerge victorious against the Mustangs with a 2-1 score.
This was a big game for both the Western Mustangs and the Waterloo Warriors. For the Mustangs, this was a crucial game to win in order to clinch a spot in the playoffs as they are tied with the Brock Badgers; and for the Warriors, they hoped to win this game to help solidify their second place spot in their division.
The first period of the game started with a lucky goal from the Warriors, about 30 seconds into the game. Mikayla Schnarr got the puck in the back of the Mustangs net to open the scoring and gain momentum for her team.
Halfway through the first, there were no further goals from either teams as the action was very much back and forth. The Mustangs were eager to tie the game and get themselves on the scoreboard, although could not create an opportunity to do so.
The first period ended with the score remaining as 1-0 for the Warriors.
About three minutes into the second period, the Mustangs get their wish to tie up the game as Kylie Logan got her first OUA goal and brought the score up to 1-1 for her team.
As the Mustangs gained momentum and positive energy from their first goal, they apply much more pressure on the Warriors. Both teams struggle to get the next goal and break the tie.
As the second period comes to a close, with about four minutes left, the Kylie Logan, from the Mustangs received a double-minor penalty for head contact, giving the Warriors a good chance to get this anticipated next goal. Unfortunately, the Warriors did capitalize on this opportunity as Leah Herrfort brought her team to a lead, 2-1, ending the second period.
The third period consisted of the Mustangs fighting to tie the game back up.
Although, unfortunately for the Mustangs, the Warriors got another goal halfway through the period. Madison Pritchard got the third goal for team, which solidified her teams lead in the game.
