London, ON - A slow start to the 2nd period was the eventual downfall as the Mustangs dropped a 4-2 loss to the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday night.
After the Warriors scored the lone goal of the 1st period, the Mustangs were looking to respond to start the second frame but couldn't find their groove. Waterloo scored just 1:27 into the second period to take a 2-0 lead, they would follow that up just over a minute and half later to take a 3-0 lead. The Mustangs would call a timeout to regroup and the message was felt.
While on the powerplay, Western would move the puck along the blueline, finishing with Christiano Aiello finishing a one-timer that found the back of the Warriors net to cut into the Waterloo lead at 3-1.
Later in the 2nd period the Mustangs would convert on the powerplay again, this time Eric Van Impe would feed a pass across the slot to Zac McCann who wired a wrister into the Waterloo net to take cut the Warriors lead to 3-2.
Both sides continued the pressure in the 3rd period but Waterloo was able to find the Mustangs net for a fourth time on the night and extend their lead to 4-2 which they would hold on to for the win.
The Mustangs have only four games remaining in the 2023-24 season, the first is this Wednesday (Jan 31) as they take on the TMU Bold. Puck drop is set for 6:00 PM, fans can watch the action on OUA.tv
