Mustangs showcase offensive power in 61-26 win over McMaster

Hamilton, ON – The Mustangs powered their way to a 61-26 win over McMaster on Saturday afternoon to push their season record to 5-1.

"We played one of our most complete games of the year today and it was great to see," said Mustangs Head Coach Greg Marshall "I really liked what our defence did to shut down one of the best quarterbacks in the OUA in Keagan Hall and I thought Evan (Hillock) had maybe his best game of the year today as well,"

Western would score 6 TDs on the day including a pair from Ethan Dolby who scored both on the ground as well as through the air.

"We've been trying to get Ethan involved in our offence the last few weeks simply because he does so many things do well, he runs well, he blocks well, a bunch of things," said Marshall "I thought all of our running backs played a solid game today which is ideal at this time of year,"

GAME RECAP

The Mustang scoring would started early including pick-6 that Ryan Barthelson ran back for an 80+ yards after Max Nixon ran over McMaster QB Keagan Hall to force a shortened pass attempt that fell to Barthelson.

After Brian Garrity kicked a pair of field goals to push the Mustangs lead to 13-3, QB Evan Hillock would connect with Mohsen Jamal midway through the 2nd quarter from 39 yards out and take a 20-3 advantage.

Later on in the 2nd quarter Hillock would connect with Dolby on a 32-yard TD connection, giving Western a 27-3 lead.

Garrity would add another field goal before the end of the half, while McMaster would add a field goal of their own but Western would hold a 30-9 lead at halftime.

Just over five minutes into the 3rd quarter the Mustangs would drive the ball to the 1-yard line and bring in backup QB Jérôme Rancourt who forced his way into the end zone to give Western another TD and a 37-9 advantage.

With under a minute to go in the 3rd quarter Keanu Yazbeck would take a short pass from Hillock and proceeded to lower his shoulder into the McMaster defender and get into the endzone to give Western a 44-12 lead.

The Mustangs wouldn't let up in the 4th quarter, nearing 9 minutes remaining Hillock would connect with WR Seth Robertson for a 19-yard connection that gave Robertson his 8th TD of the season and Western a 54-19 lead.

The final TD of the game for the Mustangs came when Rancourt came in to play QB and handed the ball off to Dolby with just over 5 minutes remaining and he would take the ball 15 yards into the endzone and give Western the 61-19 advantage.
