York defeats Western 3-0

London, ON - The Mustangs Women's Hockey team faced the York Lions on Friday night at home, in a back-to-back matchup following last Saturday's game. Last weekend was an overtime win for the Mustangs, tonight the Lions got the better of Western in a 3-0 final.

The first period started off with both teams taking good control of their own zone. The Mustangs had eight shots just ten minutes into the game.
With four minutes remaining in the first period, Western got their first power play of the night for York tripping. However, Western failed to get any shots on net. The period ended with both teams scoreless.

The second period opened with York taking a penalty for holding just 40 seconds in. Shortly after, the Lion received another penalty for tripping by Trynity Turner. Emma Mccarthy was fully tripped up and had to head off the ice with the visible pain. Western struggled to capitalize on the power play and didn't score. Emma Mccarthy returned to the ice shortly after.

Midway through the second period, York got a power play opportunity on a tripping call to Western's Kylie Logan. York took advantage of the power play and scored with just 10 seconds left on the power play. Shortly afterwards Western took another penalty, leading to a 5-on-3 advantage for York. The Lion's Alexa Giantsopoulos would convert on the advanatge and the Mustangs headed into the final frame down 2-0.

In the third period, the Mustangs tried to fight to tie the game back up, calling time out as three minutes left for the game. York sealed the win on an empty netter with just under a minute remaining from Lexy Anonech which gave York the 3-0 lead and victory.
