Montreal, QC - In one of the toughest and most competitive games of the season, the Mustangs dropped a 5-4 battle with the Concordia Stingers on Saturday afternoon.
In the the first period the Mustangs had immediate dominance, with a goal from Lawson Sherk, assisted by Noah Danielson, at 2:06 in the first period.
Mustangs were able to make it 2-0 with a shot from Eric Van Impe and a tap in by Andrew Bruder at 7:53 in the first period.
However, Concordia came back and scored their goal shortly after, closing the first period out at 2-1 for the Mustangs.
The second period Concordia took immediate control over the puck and played very strong offense, scoring two goals in the second period. The Mustangs were not able to score throughout the entirety of the second period, leaving Concordia in the lead 2-3 at the end of the second period.
Shortly into the third period, Concordia were able to continue their scoring streak, scoring another goal four minutes in, bringing the score to 4-2 for Concordia. Halfway through the third period, Concordia got their fifth goal of the game, bringing the score to 5-2.
With four minutes left, a large fight broke out resulting in four penalties, two from each team.
Less than thirty seconds after, another dirty hit against Western's Jake Gravelle occurred resulting in yet another team wide brawl and giving the Mustangs a 5-on-4 five minute power play. At 16:45, Drew Wawrow scored a powerplay goal, bringing the score to 5-3.
Shortly after, Sherk scored his second of the game with 1:43 left.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs were unable to even out the scoreboard and lost their game 5-4.
