Toronto, ON – The Mustangs faced off against TMU for the second time this season, aiming to extend their winning streak of two games. However, the game ended with a 4-1 loss for Western.
The first period was a tough start for the Mustangs this Saturday afternoon. TMU played well, trying to bounce back after last Saturday's loss to Western and take an early lead in the game.
An early penalty for TMU just one minute in gave the Mustangs a power-play opportunity, but they were unable to capitalize. Shortly after the power play ended, TMU had their first goal at 8:03, taking an early lead.
TMU's offense kept the puck in Western's zone making it difficult for the Mustangs to break into the neutral zone. TMU's strong defensive efforts stopped Western's offensive pushes.
Ahalya Julien-Medeiros from TMU scored the second goal for the team at 11:07.
Later in the period, TMU had a 5-on-3 power play and capitalized, scoring again to make it 3-0 by the end of the opening frame.
The first period ended with TMU up 3 to 0.
The second period, Western tried to put pressure on TMU and had couple of great shots but TMU's goalie made a few big saves for the team.
TMU bold added another goal with a slot shot at 13:00.
By the end of the second period, Western had 23 shots on goal compared to TMU's 12 but was unable to get on the scoreboard.
The third period, Elizabeth Gauthier helped Western get their first goal of the afternoon on the powerplay at 6:23, assisted by Madelaine DesRosiers and Adeline Kristoff.
The weekend concluded with TMU beating Western with a score of 4-1. It was TMU first time defeating Western since November, 2022.
Even though we had a tough loss, they were looking good on the power play at the end and hopefully that is an optimistic sign for the upcoming game next weekend.
