The Mustangs successfully dominate the Golden Hawks, 4-1

Waterloo, ON - The Mustangs successfully dominate the Golden Hawks, 4-1.

This past evening, the Mustangs took on the Laurier Golden Hawks on the road.

Both teams were hungry for the points as we only have a few games left in the regular season.

Early on in the first period, the Golden Hawks clearly dominated the play and created many chances to score but Brooke Vaccari stood solid for the Mustangs and did not let anything past her. The Golden Hawks saw a lot of offensive zone time.

Throughout the first, the Mustangs had fought back and put pressure on the Golden Hawks to even out the play in both zones.

Halfway through the first, the score remained tied at 0-0 as both teams eager to get the opening goal.

The period goes on with the same back and forth efforts between these two teams. The period then ends with the score remaining 0-0. The shots on goal were 12 to 6, in favour of Laurier.

Halfway through the second period, we saw the same action we had been seeing in the first. These teams seemed to be very evenly matched as both are struggling to get a goal. There have also been minimal penalties up to this point as well which makes it more difficult for either team to get themselves on the scoreboard.

With about five minutes left in the second, Kylie Logan opened the scoring for Western and got her second OUA goal! She sat herself in front of the Golden Hawks net and got the puck in the back of their net.

The Golden Hawks attempt to respond to this goal but do not have any luck. The second period ends with the Mustangs on top, 1-0.

The third period began with the Golden Hawks feeling the pressure of the Mustangs lead.

Halfway through the period, the Golden Hawks get their wish to tie the game. Grace Sumi from the Golden Hawks tied the game up 1-1 with about 13 minutes left in the game. Now, both teams scramble to get the next goal.

Fortunately, the Mustangs get the next goal as Janique LaBossiere from Kate Suitor get a lucky goal that seemed to be knocked off of a Golden Hawk player which allowed them to regain the lead to 2-1.

After this goal, the Mustangs continued with their positive momentum scored another to increase the lead to 3-1.  Alana Tymochko off the rebound from Leah Barnard and Emma Thomas help to get their team to a two goal lead.

The Mustangs were on a role as they get their fourth goal of the night on a empty net. Adeline Kristoff got this goal for her team. The score is now 4-1 with four minutes left in the game.

The game ended here as the Mustangs took the victory of this important game, 4-1.
