London, ON – The Mustangs battled hard but couldn't find the bounces and fell 4-0 to Waterloo on Friday night.
Western fell behind early with the Warriors scoring a pair of goals in the opening 1:24 of the game to go down 2-0.
"We talk about being ready right off the first draw and having intensity off these early faceoffs and I think we got caught flat footed tonight," said Mustangs Head Coach Candice Moxley "Pucks weren't bouncing our way and we were trying to make the difficult plays versus making the easy plays tonight,"
The shots were close through 20 minutes at 11-9 in favour of the Warriors.
In the second period, both sides traded chances with Waterloo getting the only goal of the period to push their lead to 3-0.
"We had a lot of chances around the goal mouth tonight which is better than we have seen recently." said Moxley "We just need to try and find that little bit of extra finish over these last few games of the year,"
Waterloo scored the lone goal of the 3
rd period with a powerplay marker after the midway point of the frame to extend their lead to 4-0 and would hold on to take the win.
Brooke Vaccari made 31 saves on the night for Western.
Only three games remain in the Mustangs regular season, starting Saturday night with the last home game against Guelph set for a 7:00 pm puck drop. Following that Western will play a pair of games against Brock next weekend that could decide whether the Mustangs make the playoffs.
"It's a bit of déjà vu situation from what we went through last year," said Moxley "I definitely want to see our group be ready going into these last few games and there's a lot on the line here for us,"
